This morning they fired up the kiln! To make the filters the team creates a mixture of clay, sawdust, and silver. They press the mixture in the filter press and let them dry. Days later when they’ve dried, they’re placed in the kiln where the sawdust will be burned off leaving a solid clay filter with the silver spread evenly inside. The kiln must reach a toasty temperature of 900 degrees before cooling. What an interesting process!
